How To Beat Your Face In 5 Minutes

Hello Divas,

Soooo, the kids are all cleaned and ready for school. Hubby is all put together and ready for work. Somehow in the midst of it all, you feel as though time has run out for properly getting yourself together to face the world. We get dressed, shoes are on, jewelry to accessorize – the works. However, the one part of us that we often neglect is the part that others see first: our face.

Here are some quick tidbits on how to achieve a lively makeup look in 5 minutes:

*IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE YOUR MAKEUP ORGANIZED THE NIGHT BEFORE* – This will save time in locating the products that you will need for your morning routine.

1. Cleanse, tone and moisturize your skin – use the appropriate products according to your skin type (dry, normal, combination, oily). If you don’t properly care for your skin, then anything else I say after this will not matter.

2. If you have combination or oily skin, I highly recommend the use of a facial primer. Most cosmetic lines have primers. Primers help to mattify your skin and helps to keep the foundation on your face longer. You won’t have to blot as much throughout the day. Tip: Use the primer after application of your daily facial moisturizer.

3. Brows – make sure they are properly groomed. Fill them in with an eye pencil (preferably in a shade lighter than your hair color. Never use black!) and powder if needed. Eyebrows are important, as they help to give shape to our faces.

4. Concealer, lighteners, color correctors – if you have dark under-eye circles, blemishes, acne, scaring, etc. concealers, lighteners and correctors help to cover those slight imperfections. General rule of thumb: the concealer should be no more than 1 shade LIGHTER than your foundation. (Ex: I wear MAC foundation in NW43, therefore I use MAC concealer in NW40) under my eyes.

5. Foundation – use the proper foundation according to skin type, skin color, and desired coverage (light, medium, or full). Foundation comes in liquid, cream, pressed powder, mineral powder. (Sidenote: if  using concealer, lightener or color corrector, then you will want to DAB the foundation over the concealed areas to prevent wiping away the product)

6. Eyeliner – use a black or brown kohl eye liner.

7. Mascara – Black mascara is the general rule of thumb. If you have a very fair complexion, then brown mascara is the way to go. Mascara works to help open your eyes up and give you a more lively look.

8. Blush – to give you some brightness and color. Apply on the apples of your cheekbones. If you don’t know where the apples are, then just simply smile and the 2 lovely round things you see are the apples. 🙂 Use a powder or cream blush. For oily skin, I would just stick with powder blush. Make sure to use shades that are suitable for your skin tone.

9. Lipstick/Lip gloss – Use shades that are suitable for your skin tone.

10. Translucent powder – dust those areas that need some extra protection. For example, Combination skin will need the powder in the T-zone areas (forehead, nose, chin and cheeks).

11. Eye shadow (EXTRA) – if you must wear eye shadow, I suggest you pick 1 neutral shade that is closest to your skin complexion. If you have oily lids, apply an eye primer, such as Urban Decay’s Primer Potion (UDPP) beforehand. Otherwise, you can simply apply concealer and powder on the lids beforehand.

When you have free time – try practicing these steps. The amount of time spent applying your makeup should be faster than the time I spent typing these tips. 🙂

Stay Beautiful!!
